Gross Schechter Day School presents new and returning programs for young families

Oct 01, 2016 02:47PM ● By Today's Family

The first session of Baby's First was held on September 22 in preparation for Rosh Hashanah and was led by Rabbi Scott Roland from Congregation Shaarey Tikvah.

Gross Schechter Day School is pleased to offer new and returning programs for young families in the Cleveland Jewish community. New this year are two programs, Baby’s First, a special program around holidays for children in their first year of life, supported by a Shoresh grant through the Jewish Educational Center of Cleveland and Preschool Prep, a parent/caregiver - child separation class.  For the fourth year, Gross Schechter is hosting the popular Monday Fun Day, a weekly mommy and me class, free and open to the community. All three programs are geared towards families with young children as a way to meet other young families and enjoy programming led by experts in the early childhood field.

Baby’s First
Parents or caregivers and children can experience the wonderful milestones of a baby’s first year in this special program presented by Gross Schechter.  Join their dynamic early childhood staff in a series of hands-on programs that follow the Jewish holidays. The first session was held on September 22 in preparation for Rosh Hashanah and was led by Rabbi Scott Roland from Congregation Shaarey Tikvah. All programs take place from 9-10 am. Dates for the upcoming programs are: October 13 - Sukkot, December 15 - Hanukkah, March 9 - Purim, April 6 - Pesach. This program is free and open to the community. Registration is required at www.grossschechter.org/babys-first.

Preschool Prep
This new program is designed to gently prepare young children (12 months and up) for preschool. Participating children will meet in a preschool classroom and will get comfortable with the preschool rhythms with parents or caregivers present. Children will have their own cubbies with their names for backpacks and coats. They will have a familiar and predictable routine and will follow a curriculum that complements the rest of the Schechter early childhood program while having ample opportunities for parent involvement, like attending our beloved Thanksgiving banquet. Toddlers will be introduced to areas such as: multi-sensory activities, small and large muscle activities (including gym), art projects, imaginative play, English and Hebrew language development and more. This program will provide an insider’s experience to the Gross Schechter early childhood program. Schechter will offer three, eight-week sessions this year. Each session has a participation fee of $100. To register, visit www.grossschechter.org/preschool-prep. Session 1 begins October 19 from 3-4 pm.

Monday Fun Day
Enjoy the popular Monday morning Mommy & Me from 10-11 am, beginning on Monday, November 7. This morning program includes storytime, music, snack and free play with their early childhood and arts staff. This program is free, but registration is strongly encouraged.
