Bundle up and explore the season of winter! It may not be 60 and sunny, but wintertime has its own beauty and wonder. Get outside and experience the winter wonderland at Lake Metroparks’ 10th annual Winter Hike on Sunday, February 12 at Penitentiary Glen Reservation. Hikers will embark on their choice of two hikes, varying in length and terrain. The novice hiker will enjoy a short hike with flat and mild terrain led by Lake Metroparks naturalists. More experienced hikers will enjoy the challenge of the longer self-guided hike featuring rolling terrain and a few steep hills and a variety of nature- and hiking-related information stations along the way. Both hikes begin at 1 pm. Hikers wishing to go at their own pace may choose their own self-guided hike between 1 and 4 pm. Easy-to-follow trail maps are available in the Nature Center. Registration is required to participate in the 10th annual Winter Hike. A commemorative Winter Hike patch, s’mores, soup and beverages are included in the $8 registration fee.
