The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes presents its 35th Annual Plant Sale to be held on Saturday, May 13 from 9:30 am to 1 pm in the parking lot located at 2600 South Park Boulevard in Shaker Heights. The Nature Center Plant Sale offers a beautiful variety of affordable herbs, vegetables, perennials and annuals selected by a local team of experienced gardeners. Annual plants can be purchased individually or in convenient, prearranged hanging baskets and container assortments. The Plant Sale also features hard-to-find native plants that attract and support local wildlife, particularly butterflies, birds and insects. Also included is the always-popular home growns plant sale that offers a variety of plants grown and donated by local gardeners at terrific prices. Popular plants found in the home growns section include ferns, Virginia bluebells and wood poppy for shady gardens and plants that attract pollinators such as cardinal flower and coneflower. Experts will be available throughout the day offering guidance in making great selections of plants to add texture and color to sunny and shade gardens. Activities include a special Mother’s Day kids’ craft, refreshments, vendors and music, making it a fun day for the entire family. Parking is available on nearby streets, and curbside assistance to load plant purchases is provided. The Annual Plant Sale is an important fundraiser for the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes and supports the public trails, natural habitats and acclaimed environmental education programs that welcome over 40,000 people each year.
