Beth Brinton’s dream of having her own pottery studio was realized last year, and has exceeded her original vision.  “I wanted a place for people of all ages to come, be creative, have fun, and create memories,” says the owner of Busy Bees Pottery & Arts Studio in Mentor.

Brinton adds that she wanted her business to be a place where families can create things together, or for older kids who need something constructive to do while parents shop, run errands, or simply enjoy a kid-free dinner out.  And also for adults who love projects.

Her many faithful customers are a testament that Brinton has accomplished all these goals.  Maybe because she, too, likes to be creative and have fun.  “I’ve just added a disco light music player to our Friday Kids Night Out events, so while we’re being creative, we’re listening to music and dancing.  The kids have a ball.”

And so do the parents, since they get to drop their children off for two-and-a-half hours for their own brand of fun.  In addition, Brinton hosts adult nights and family workshops as well.  She has also recently added three new mediums.  “We now do board art, wine and Pilsner glass painting, and mixed media art,” Brinton says.  “We’re always expanding our creative classes and workshops so our customers have a variety of choices.”

There are a variety of special classes that are offered each month.  This includes pottery and canvas painting, glass fusing, mosaics, board art and clay hand building.  Brinton stresses that you do not need to have the talents of a Van Gogh to create something beautiful and staff is always on hand to assist.  Some of the choices in pottery include plates, mugs, bowls, and a wide selection of seasonal and kids items.  In mosaics, there are picture frames and a variety of hanging pieces.  You can choose your own design for canvas paintings.  Customers can also book a private event here for any occasion.

“We have a lot of family and kids that come, but my most consistent regulars are adult women,” Brinton says.  “They come in for their girl time.  This is a nice alternative for those who don’t want to go to bars, but want to have a fun place to socialize.”

We take walks-ins, too,” she adds.  “One thing I want to stress is that even when we have parties going on, such as a children’s birthday, we are still open to anyone who wants to come in during that time.  The studio is large enough to accommodate everyone.  We can certainly host multiple parties.”
