After months of construction, a brand new state-of-the-art gymnasium is up and running at Joseph and Florence Mandel Jewish Day School. On Tuesday, February 21, a pep rally served as the official welcome to the gym, as students and staff alike rejoiced over the impressive new addition.
The gym, nearly double in size with the addition of over 5,000 square feet, boasts three basketball courts, a rock-climbing wall, a seated balcony area, and locker rooms. The increased size of the gym will allow Mandel JDS to host more athletic events, tournaments, and other activities for the community. A charity basketball game and events for school alumni are already in the works.
Outside of the gym, additional phases to the construction will be centered on updated classrooms, new science labs, a new facade and entryway, and more.
Founded in 1969, Mandel JDS is Cleveland’s first Jewish day school accredited for educational excellence by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS). Originally The Agnon School, in August 2015 the name changed to Joseph and Florence Mandel Jewish Day School, in appreciation of a $17,050,000 grant. Open to the entire Jewish community, Mandel JDS enrolls almost 380 students, 18 months – 8th grade, from diverse Jewish backgrounds.
