Super Boat racing is coming back to Lake County this summer when teams from around the world compete in the 2nd annual Super Boat Grand Prix at Headlands Beach in Mentor. Presented by Cleveland Construction, Inc., the ‘Roar off the Shore’ promises to deliver high-speed offshore racing from the world’s largest and fastest super boats.

The fun begins on Friday, July 21 where fans will have the ability to get up close and personal at the dry pits, hosted at the Great Lakes Mall. Race fans can “touch a boat” and meet race teams. The dry pits at the Great Lakes Mall will feature food and entertainment from 4–7 PM. Confirmed food trucks include; Manna, Stone Pelican, River Dog, Flamingo Jacks, and Fawaky Burst. In addition, Tony Sacco’s Coal Oven Pizza and Chick Fil-A will also be present.

Boat testing and time trials will be held on Saturday, July 22. Boats will be launched in at the Mentor Lagoons Marina with test runs occurring throughout the afternoon along Headlands Beach State Park. Beachgoers will be able to enjoy Headlands BeachFest that same day.

And finally, the racing action will take place on race day, Sunday, July 23, as over 20 world-class super boats compete at speeds approaching 180 mph! The 4.1-mile race course will be set up directly in front of Headlands Beach. Fans on the beach will be able to see all the explosive action and hear the race play-by-play.

“We were extremely pleased with the turnout last year and we look to improve the fan experience this year. We’re working with Super Boat International to broadcast play-by-play of the race directly on the beach so fans can better follow the race,” says event director Shawn Zbasnik. “Fans can also enjoy food, a beer garden, and entertainment between races on the beach.”

Admission is free, but parking will be $10 per car at Headlands Beach on Sunday to help support the event. Parking passes can be purchased at the Great Lakes Mall dry pits on Friday July 22, 2017.

Whether you watch the races from Headlands Beach or on a boat, fun will be had by all!
