Jul 17, 2017 04:53PM ● By Today's Family
The 2017 Cleveland National Air Show presented by Discount Drug Mart will feature the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and will take place Labor Day weekend September 2, 3 & 4 at Burke Lakefront Airport in downtown Cleveland.

The six select Thunderbird pilots will put their distinct red, white and blue F-16 Fighting Falcon jet fighters through a choreographed hour-long performance each day at the air show.  Hitting speeds of up to 500 mph, the Thunderbird pilots will fly as close as three feet from one another.  Their demonstration will feature 40 maneuvers including the trademarked Thunderbird six-plane delta formation, high bomb burst, and solo knife-edge pass.  Also referred to as the U.S. Air Force “Ambassadors in Blue,” the Thunderbirds made their first appearance in Cleveland in 1965.  2017 will mark the 70th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force and the Thunderbirds’ 65th season.

The U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet demonstration will thrill spectators with its awesome power and agility.  The Super Hornet is an all-weather strike fighter aircraft that performs fighter escort, fleet air defense, force projection, interdiction, and close air support.  The U.S. Navy East Coast F/A-18 Super Hornet Tactical Demonstration Team will come from Strike Fighter Squadron 106 (VFA 106), also known as the “Gladiators” based at Naval Air Station in Oceana, Virginia.

The impressive lineup for the 2017 air show will include aerobatic legend Sean D. Tucker, the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, a World War II dogfight and more.  Inside the gates, spectators will witness the 300 mph Shockwave Jet Truck racing down the runway, and will feel the heat of the heart-pumping, ground-shaking pyrotechnic display including a wall of fire.  Plus fans roaming the air show grounds can tour unique aircraft, help pack a parachute, meet a pilot, and explore aviation first hand.

Advance general admission tickets will be available at local Discount Drug Mart stores starting August 1 and are $21 for adults, $14 for children ages 6–11 ($2 more at the gate) and free for children 5 and younger.  Popular seating, including reserved box seats and Barnstormer Club, offer a variety of amenities.
