Inlet Dance Theatre teaches dance at The Music Settlement for ages 3+
Since 2011, Inlet Dance Theatre has been an artist-in-residence at The Music Settlement in University Circle. The professional company members of Inlet, teach weekly dance classes at The Music Settlement for students aged 3 up to adults.
Inlet Dance Theatre’s education programs are a core component of the company’s mission. Inlet engages, mentors and trains students of all ages and skill levels to use dance as a means to develop self-discipline, teamwork, body awareness, physical fitness and self-confidence. This process not only helps students reach beyond their own perceived physical limits, but beyond personal limitations as well.
Inlet’s varied education programs employ the four creative practices of imagination, investigation, construction, and reflection and nurture the effective work habits of curiosity, creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, communication, empathy and collaboration each of which transfer to all aspects of learning and life in the 21st century.
Care is taken to ensure a warm and empathic learning environment as Inlet engages students in the various skills needed in the art making process. Inlet’s dance classes link to the National Standards for Dance Education and the Ohio Department of Education’s Dance Education Standards.
The evidence of how Inlet is “using dance to further people” is demonstrated not only by the increased knowledge and skills of their students, but also when they translate dance lessons into life lessons.

Inlet has participated in numerous international artistic exchanges through The Cleveland Foundation’s Creative Fusion program and a two week residency exchange to Easter Island (made possible by the Ohio Arts Council, The Ohio Arts Foundation, Playhouse Square’s Education Department, the State Department and the American Embassy in Santiago, Chile). Inlet’s education programming includes teaching dance classes for all ages at The Music Settlement, attracting students from all over the country to their summer dance intensive and their year-long trainee program, and conducting residencies throughout Ohio as part of the Ohio Arts Council’s Arts Learning Residency Program.
