Scuba Claus coming to the Greater Cleveland Aquarium
Warm holiday wishes and brightly
colored fishes come together at the Greater
Cleveland Aquarium for Scuba Claus
& the Seas’N of Play
presented by WOW! Internet, Cable & Phone. The event will take place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 24 through December 24.
Activity stations illustrate how hula hoops, fish-cicles and other toys and treats help to keep the Aquarium’s residents active and engaged. “We regularly provide enrichment while promoting natural behaviors,” explains Aquarium GM Tami Brown. Stimulation and environmental enhancements can range from hiding carrot slices for the tortoises to find, to adding bubbles for curious stingrays to explore. During Seas’N of Play guests are invited to try parallel sensory activities such as practicing their aim like an archerfish spurting a stream of water at a moving target.
“While learning about angelfish, peppermint shrimp, pink sea stars, snowflake eels and other holiday-sounding aquatic creatures is a fun family outing all on its own, there’s one gallery that always steals the show in December and that is our shark exhibit,” says Brown. There, guests can see Scuba Claus dive in 230,000 gallons of water (12–1:30 pm) and ask him questions while he visits a porcupine pufferfish, green moray eel, goliath grouper and other aquatic friends. “Apparently our sharks made his ‘nice’ list,” jokes Brown, adding, “Maybe that’s why they have those toothy grins.”
Children visiting for Seas’N of Play will receive an original Scuba Claus coloring book and a temporary tattoo courtesy of WOW! (While supplies last.)
