Kick Butts Day is March 20, 2019

Kick Butts Day was created by The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, and is a national day for youth to advocate and stand up against Big Tobacco. It takes place this year on March 20, 2019.

On this day, teachers and health advocates across the nation work with youth to set up events that raise awareness of tobacco use within their community, encourage kids to stay away from tobacco, and to bring awareness to elected officials who can take actions to protect children from tobacco. The goal is to reduce death and disease associated with tobacco in the United States, to save lives by advocating for policies that can prevent children from smoking, to protect individuals from the harms of secondhand smoke, and to aid those who do currently smoke in quitting.

Lake County General Health District (LCGHD) supports the efforts of Kick Butts Day by encouraging youth to stand up against Big Tobacco and pledging to be smoke-free. They also encourage those who are current smokers to set a plan to quit and kick the habit.

LCGHD will be at The Kids Show at Great Lakes Mall in Mentor on Saturday, March 23 from 10:00 am–6:00 pm, and Sunday, March 24 from noon–5:00 pm. They encourage youth, parents and caregivers, and anyone who would like to pledge to be smoke-free to stop by their table and sign the “Smoke Free Campaign.”

They will also have smoking cessation resources available at the table for those interested in quitting.
