Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens opens new exhibit
In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary and Akron’s 201st birthday, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens will present The Families That Built Akron, a special exhibit that opened May 23, 2026.
Located in the dining room of the Manor House and included with regular Manor House admission, the exhibit explores Akron’s history through the stories of the families and individuals who helped shape the city over the past two centuries.
Founded in 1825 along the Ohio & Erie Canal, Akron grew from a small canal town into one of America’s fastest-growing cities during the rubber and tire boom of the early 1900s. Along the way, generations of residents helped build the community through local industry, small businesses, military service, and civic involvement.
The exhibit highlights the personal stories behind Akron’s growth while encouraging visitors to reflect on their own family histories and the ways everyday people contribute to the fabric of a community.
Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is a nonprofit historic house museum in Akron. The 65-room Tudor Revival estate and 70-acre grounds were built beginning in 1912 by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company cofounder F.A. Seiberling and his wife, Gertrude. Today, Stan Hywet is dedicated to cultural and educational enrichment through preservation and interpretation of the historic estate.
Make your visit even more special on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the 68th annual Father’s Day Car Show. This year’s event promises to be the most exciting yet, featuring a star-studded lineup of iconic Hollywood cars, and a brand-new Touch-A-Truck experience for the youngest guests.
