Morley Library Kicks Off Summer Reading with Outback Ray
Kids enjoyed meeting a piebald ball python, an albino Burmese python, a black velvet chinchilla, a golden three-banded armadillo, and other fascinating animals at Morley Library's free Summer Reading Kickoff program with Outback Ray's Amazing Animal Show on Saturday, June 6. The library's Summer Reading Program runs from June 6 through July 18 and is open to all ages. Readers can register for this year's program (Unearth a Story) on the Beanstack app and track their reading for chances to win fun prizes. Patrons can also stop in or call for registration assistance.
Summer reading programs help students avoid the “summer slide,” which is the learning loss that can occur during extended breaks from school. Library usage also plays an important role in helping children maintain reading skills, continue learning habits, and return to the classroom better prepared in the fall. In addition to supporting literacy, libraries provide families with free access to educational programming, technology, and creative activities during the summer months.
