Thirteen talented performers will take center stage at Mentor CityFest as Deepwood Idol returns to celebrate dreams, determination and the talents of individuals with developmental disabilities. Now in its 14th year, the popular event has become one of Lake County’s most inspiring showcases of inclusion, community spirit and self-expression.

Deepwood Idol will take place on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. on the main stage at the Mentor CityFest amphitheater. This marks the fifth year this free event has been featured as part of Mentor CityFest.

Inspired by the television show American Idol™, Deepwood Idol gives individuals eligible to receive services through the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities / Deepwood (LCBDD) the opportunity to perform before a large audience and share their talents on a professional stage. 

“Deepwood Idol demonstrates what makes Lake County special—a community that celebrates inclusion and recognizes the talents and contributions of people with developmental disabilities,” said Elfie Roman, LCBDD superintendent. “Being part of Mentor CityFest allows even more people to experience the joy, excitement and inspiration these performers bring to the stage.”

After auditions featuring singers, dancers, comedians and musicians, 13 acts earned a spot in this year’s finale. For many contestants, it will be their first Deepwood Idol experience.

“What began as a small talent show at a day habilitation program has evolved into a highly anticipated community event that requires months of planning and preparation,” said Ashley Cozzens, LCBDD community relations director. “About half of this year’s finalists are performing in Deepwood Idol for the first time, and we’re excited to watch them shine.”

Deepwood Idol 2025 winner Charlotte Daprano knows firsthand the impact the event can have. Her performance of “True Colors” captivated audiences and earned her last year’s title.

“The song is special because we are all different, and that’s a good thing,” said Daprano. “Don’t be afraid to be who you are.”

Audiences can expect a memorable and uplifting event filled with music, dancing, comedy and inspiring performances from contestants pursuing their dream of performing on a big stage.
