Annual Clean Water Festival returns September 19

The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District will host its annual Clean Water Festival on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant, located at 4747 East 49th Street in Cuyahoga Heights. The last tour of the day will begin at 3 p.m.

Clean Water Fest offers a full day of free games, giveaways, tours, trucks, education, treats and family-friendly activities focused on the work it takes to protect clean water, public health and the environment.

Guests of all ages can tour the Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant, the largest wastewater treatment plant in Ohio and one of the largest facilities of its kind in the country. The nearly 300-acre site gives visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the innovation, equipment and infrastructure needed to treat wastewater and protect the region’s waterways.

Walking tours of the plant last approximately 45 minutes and depart every 15 minutes from 9:30 a.m.–3 p.m. Hard-sole, closed-toe shoes are required. Tour registration is required on-site at the Plant Tour booth, and space is limited to 40 guests per tour.

Guided tours of the Sewer District’s award-winning, state-certified laboratory will also be offered every 30 minutes, with limited space available.

Clean Water Fest will also feature dozens of exhibit booths with games and prizes, face painting, Touch-a-Truck displays, a Kids Zone with hands-on activities, arts and crafts, stickers, free popcorn, food trucks, photo opportunities and gift bags for all guests. Free shuttle service will be available to and from the parking area throughout the day.

Two 5-mile bike tours through and around the Southerly facility will take place at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Advance registration is required while space is available.
