Archaeology and Earth Science Day
The event will feature a variety of activities in observance of International Archaeology Day, National Earth Science Week and Ohio Archaeology Month.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their rocks, minerals, fossils and artifacts for identification by Museum scientists. Guests can also try primitive technologies such as atlatl spear throwing and watch other demonstrations. Museum curators, guest scientists and representatives from regional institutions and universities will be on hand to answer questions. There will be kid-friendly crafts available in the Smead Discovery Center to create and take home.
Students and individuals interested in archaeology and earth sciences can learn about upcoming Museum projects, excavations, field trips and volunteer opportunities. Representatives from related clubs and organizations will provide information about special programs to work with geologists, paleontologists and archaeologists in the field. In addition, visitors can check out all of the Museum’s permanent exhibits, including touring the Seismic Observatory and hear about recent earthquake activity in our region.
The event is free with general Museum admission.
