Turkey Tech

Family friendly fun at Great Lakes Science Center

The dishes are done, the leftovers are packed up and the football games are over, but you've still got a house full of relatives and friends for the weekend. What can you do that everyone will agree on? Bring the family to Turkey Tech at Great Lakes Science Center! Holiday-themed interactive activities and demonstrations are scheduled throughout the day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, November 25 and Saturday, November 26. Can your family protect an egg from an 80 foot drop? Work as a team to design and build the perfect contraption to protect your egg as you drop it from the top floor of the Science Center's atrium in the Egg Drop Challenge. Find out how science and chemicals work in your kitchen during a Kitchen Chemistry Lab demonstration, learn the physics of flight and find out if turkeys can fly during the Physics of Flight Science Spectacular and see how a vacuum chamber might affect a feast in space at the Thanksgiving in Space cart activity. Guests can also learn how 3-D printers work, and test themselves to design and create a device to launch a turkey into a pot at the Turkey Toss challenge. For an additional fee, guests can register for the LEGO EV3 Feast Frenzy where they will make and program a robot to gather Thanksgiving dinner "fixin's." Registration is required in advance for the LEGO workshop. The fee is $20 for a family up to three participants or $15 for member families. (Fee does not include general admission.) Call 216-621-2400 to register. Turkey Tech weekend is also an excellent opportunity to visit the new Cleveland Clinic DOME Theater for a screening of "Journey to Space" or "Tiny Giants," or stay after-hours on Saturday, November 26 for a special 6 p.m. screening of the Thanksgiving comedy classic "Planes, Trains & Automobiles." Tickets for "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" are $11 per person, $9 for members. Beer, wine and other concessions will be available. Tickets can be purchased online at GreatScience.com or by calling 216-621-2400.
