Fun ‘N Games in the Park
Learn about nature from Native American heritage
November is a time for fun Nature-based games in Geauga Park District! First, registration is required at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org or 440-286-9516 to attend Native American Games on Sunday, November 10, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Big Creek Park’s Meyer Center.
There, anyone school-aged and older can join Naturalist Karie Wheaton to play some traditional games that Native American children once played to develop skills which made them better hunters! One of Naturalist Karie’s favorite games she will teach is called Pulse, which stresses the importance of quick reflexes and teamwork. In it, players are split into two lines sitting down facing each other, holding hands. Everyone has their eyes closed except the two line leaders. One other person, the game leader, flips a quarter. If tails, nothing happens. If heads, the first person in each line starts a hand-squeezing pulse down the line, ending with the last person, who tries to be the first to pick up a bean bag nearby – whichever team gets the bag wins!
