Take In The Perseids
Make it a tradition and spend the night at Observatory Park for the annual Perseids Meteor Shower, featuring special appearances by the park’s amazing nocturnal wildlife of summer! All ages are invited to lay back and enjoy this natural all-night spectacular at Ohio's only International Dark Sky Park. No formal program will be held, but a naturalist and other astronomers will be on hand to answer questions and point out other interesting objects in the summer sky. Park telescopes will also be available for viewing non-meteors if the weather is clear. This year’s meteor shower is expected to produce 60 to 80 “shooting stars” per hour. Though the shower is forecast to be at its most intense in the after-midnight hours of 1 to 3 a.m., observers should be able to catch sight of meteors for several days as the Earth drifts through the path of comet Switft-Tuttle. Please dress warmly and pack some bug spray, something warm to drink, a reclining lawn chair and some blankets for your evening. And for this once-a-year spectacular, if you’d like to camp, you may also bring your own tent! Observatory Park is wheelchair/stroller accessible.
